MEADOW GARDEN
HOME OF A GEORGIA REVOLUTIONARY
Meadow Garden’s most prominent occupant was the Senator, Governor, Delegate to the Continental Congress, and youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence: George Walton.
The Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution engaged Landmark Preservation LLC (Landmark) to perform a thorough assessment of Meadow Garden (1792) to create a master plan for the restoration and preservation of the building and site located in Augusta, Georgia.
Countless hours of architectural study and archival research culminated in a master plan that included:
Complete Meadow Garden Timeline and Architectural Chronology
Period of Significance and Interpretation
Comprehensive Conditions Assessment and Recommendations
Prioritization Schedule
Capital Budgets for Restoration and General Maintenance
Measured Architectural Floor Plan Drawings
Hand-rendered interpretations of historic periods
Historic Paint Analysis to ensure the accuracy of future restoration efforts.
In addition to the 2018 Master Plan, Landmark Preservation LLC continues to perform hands on restoration efforts and has since compiled the first Addendum document to the Master Plan in 2020. The first Addendum provides an update of the 2018 plan that includes new discoveries to the Timeline, Architectural Chronology including updated “Periods" of interpretation, and a summary of the restoration work completed. The Prioritization Schedule was updated for the 2020-2021 year. As a result, the Capital Budget was also revised.
Landmark Preservation Consulting LLC (LPC) took over the consulting portion of the efforts at Meadow Garden in 2021 and will continue to compile future Addendums and yearly inspections to guide the hands on restoration efforts of the site.
