MEET THE TEAM

LAUREN L. MATHERLY

Lauren attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she received her Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2016. As an undergraduate student, she gained an interest in historic preservation and decided to move to Charleston, South Carolina after graduation to attend Clemson University’s historic preservation program. While attending graduate school, she worked for an architecture firm whose work focused on the renovation of historic houses throughout Charleston and South Carolina’s low country. Over the course of her two years of living and working in Charleston, she solidified her passion for preservation and recognized that the field of historic preservation was her true calling.

Lauren’s thesis, “Fostering Community: Spatial Arrangements of Early Nineteenth Century Camp Meeting Grounds” in South Carolina, focused nineteenth century camp meeting grounds throughout South Carolina through the investigative lens of spatial analysis. Her study revealed patterns, relationships and trends that are deeply embedded within the organization of these historic places. Additionally her work highlighted how these places have functioned and adapted throughout time. In 2018, Lauren graduated with a Masters of Science in Historic Preservation from Clemson University and was awarded The Best Thesis Award presented by Clemson's Historic Preservation program and the Preservation Society of Charleston.

After graduation, she moved back to her hometown in South Carolina where she worked for a local architecture firm while she pursued her architectural license. While there, Lauren gained experience in both new construction and renovation. Deciding it was time to pursue a career that was more deeply rooted in preservation where she could utilize both her degrees in architecture and historic preservation, she found her current role with LPC.

Joining the LPC team in 2023, Lauren is a vital asset to the team as assistant project manager and future licensed architect. She is a member of Historic Augusta. Lauren has lived and worked in North Augusta for over eight years with her husband. Lauren’s passion for historic preservation continues to grow and, for her, uncovering the true stories from our nation’s past and preserving our country’s rich heritage is both an honor and joy.
